Turkey 2023–2024 – Disasters, Emergencies and Crisis Situations
Comprehensive mobile solution providing accommodation and services for normal living for people affected by the earthquake in Southern Turkey
Deployment locations:
Iskenderun and Antakya (Hatay Province), Turkey
Project scale:
Provision of reliable and comfortable shelter for 5,600 people
1. Operational Readiness
The project was implemented under conditions of unprecedented urgency following the devastating earthquakes. Global RTS demonstrated critical operational readiness within a matter of days from the start of mobilization, carrying out extensive logistical operations:
• Large-scale supply chain: Organization of delivery and installation of tents and other equipment, ensuring the construction of temporary field camps with a total accommodation area of 18,600 sq.m. in two of the most severely affected zones – Iskenderun and Antakya. Global RTS demonstrated unprecedented resource mobilization
• Cross-border long-distance logistics: Successful organization and transportation of thousands of tons of equipment over a distance of more than 1,600 km from the production base in Gelemenovo village, Bulgaria, to the most affected regions in Turkey
• Speed of response: Despite the vast distance and the damaged road infrastructure in the host country, the supply chain was secured without interruption, allowing installation works in Iskenderun and Antakya to begin immediately
• Resource provision: Full readiness with available structures and specialized equipment, dispatched directly from the central warehouse in Bulgaria to critical points
• Full accommodation capacity: Rapid provision of specialized structures designed for long-term stay, adapted to the climatic conditions of the region, ensuring the maintenance of normal living conditions for those in need
• Expert presence: Deployment of teams for parallel work at both sites, ensuring continuity of installation processes and subsequent management and maintenance of the assets
2. Strategic and Organizational Flexibility
The company went beyond standard tent delivery, becoming an integrator of комплексни услуги:
• Integrated infrastructure: In addition to accommodation tents, sanitary containers (toilets and showers) were delivered and installed, independently supplied with non-potable water and wastewater drainage, which is critical for preventing epidemics in refugee camps
• Utilities management: Global RTS took over the logistics of essential supplies, including electricity distribution from the local grid and provision of backup power capacity via generators, water supply, cleaning and sanitary materials, ensuring autonomy and functionality of the settlements throughout the entire project lifecycle
• Local cooperation: Effective coordination with local authorities on site in Iskenderun and Antakya for optimal positioning of the structures in accordance with the specifics of the destroyed urban landscape
3. Quality and Risk Management
In conditions of destroyed infrastructure and risk of aftershocks, control was uncompromising:
• Sanitary and hygiene standards: The integration of sanitary facilities and management of water supply ensured high hygiene levels for over 5,600 people
• Engineering safety: All 18,000 sq.m. of structures were executed with the highest class of wind resistance and fire safety, ensuring the safety of residents
• Resource sustainability: Efficient supply management guaranteed uninterrupted operation of energy systems throughout the project period
4. Proven Results
The results of the project measure success not only in numbers, but in saved human lives:
• Full lifecycle: Fully functioning settlements were created for 5,600 people, providing shelter, personal hygiene and comfortable climatic conditions
• Logistical success: Successful management of complex infrastructure in Antakya and Iskenderun – among the most affected areas, where logistics was most difficult
• Leadership in crisis management: Global RTS established itself as a “full-cycle” provider, capable of delivering not only shelter, but also the entire critical infrastructure (LSS – Life Support Services) necessary for survival in such large-scale disasters
